Math, AI, and the Meaning of Being Human

I had another post in the can for today – head's up: it’s about Google – and then I listened to The Daily podcast from the New York Times this morning and feel compelled to share it.

Nominally, it’s about mathematics and AI.

Fundamentally, it’s about the meaning of being human.

These days, I feel emotionally fragile.  Perhaps it’s because I’m aging, in the autumn of life; perhaps it burbles up from turmoil and despots of the world that are drip fed to us moment by moment, day by day.  Likely, it’s a combination of the two.

And mathematics is an unlikely catalyst for my tear ducts, as I'm not very mathy.

But this morning I cried as I listened to this episode.  Jesus, I wept.

Spoiler alert: I wasn't the only one who cried.

I hope you have time in your life to give it a listen.

Godspeed, friends.
