All AI, All the Time

All AI, all the time - or at least this week here at Godspeed as this issue and Thursday's are heavily influenced by my A.I. hallucinations. Well, sort of.

Today, Andrew Kassoy lays out a plan in a New York Times Op-Ed for how OpenAI can successfully implement its stated intent to become a public benefit corporation. And Andrew would know – he helped co-write the model benefit corporation legislation as a co-founder of B Lab, the nonprofit legislation. Definitely worth the read.

And oh, if you click this link, you can learn about how OpenAI has a new generation of models that will spend more time thinking before they respond. 🤔

We'll also look at a subversive use of AI by journalists in Venezuela – and we mean subversive in the best way possible – and as in every Tuesday edition we'll provide you with jobs that can put you on a path to more purpose in your career. There's even one in AI, fancy that.

Lastly, a shout-out to one of my brothers from another mother, Andrew Boardman of Montreal, Quebec, for supporting Godspeed with some of his hard-earned 💰. While we ain't getting rich, we're always seeking to enrich, and Andrew is a worthy example of that model.

Godspeed, friends.

Russ

💬 Quote of the Week

“Technology alone is not enough. It’s technology married with the liberal arts, married with the humanities, that yields us the results that make our hearts sing.” Steve Jobs

💥 Quick Hits

An AI colossus embraces shape shifting – No surprise here – OpenAI is in the process of shifting from a nonprofit to a for-profit with the intention of becoming a public benefit corporation. Will this be successful? Andrew Kassoy lays down some rules of the road.

Where’s the beef? – Greenwashing and greenhouse gases don't mix, at least not in New York State where the attorney general has filed a lawsuit against JBS, a Brazilian beef giant, over its climate claims. We found this line from a JBS advertisement quite curious: “Agriculture can be part of the climate solution. Bacon, chicken wings and steak with net-zero emissions. It’s possible.”

And now the news from, Venezuela – Is it a surprise that a TV station might want to replace its news anchors with AI-generated ones? Maybe, maybe not – but the reason this is actually happening in Venezuela puts a new spin on things.
